How to Enjoy Your Day

 Everyone knows or has heard of those wedding day disasters that happen to other people, so how do you avoid them??  One of the most important factors to avoiding wedding day disasters is to realize that something can go wrong. Relax and don’t expect perfection. It may rain, your uncle Henry may get a little too tipsy, and a cell phone may go off repeatedly during the entire ceremony. Recognizing that there will inevitably be issues will help you deal with them calmly. Hiring a wedding planner will minimize what can go wrong because you have someone watching over you. There are other ways you can minimize the potential for disaster. Some simple recommendations are:

1. Don’t try to do everything yourself. You can’t possibly enjoy your wedding if you are making table arrangements or putting together bouquets and favors an hour before the ceremony. A florist and wedding planner can help here.
2. Make sure your wedding day timeline is realistic. If your beauty consultant thinks she’ll take an hour for hair and makeup, allow two. If you think it will only take thirty minutes to get to the venue, allow an hour. If you are early, you can spend the time perfecting your look and chilling out instead of arriving frazzled and rushed.
3. Don’t let the amateur photographers in your group interfere with your professional wedding photographer. I attended a wedding where Cousin Joe fancied himself a photographer. He had more equipment that the wedding photographer. The wedding photographer spent the entire day working around Cousin Joe. It’s great that family and friends bring their own cameras to get candid shots but, they need to be aware of what the pro is doing.
4. Don’t hire amateurs or friends for your wedding day. Aunt Mabel may make the best cake in the state, but I have seen many cake disasters made by friends and family. If the cake is not prepared or constructed properly it may not survive the day. Your next door neighbor may be a fabulous cook and puts on the best parties but this does not mean he can pull off a wedding. I have seen many guests go hungry because there was not enough food prepared.
5. Detailed planning from start to finish is the best way to minimize any potential wedding day problems. A wedding planner will help you hire quality vendors, prepare a well thought out timeline and handle any problems that may arise on your BIG day so things run a smoothly as possible.
